When a bride comes to talk about wedding flowers, it often becomes quickly apparent there might be a theme for their wedding, a mood; a colour palette.
A wedding is certainly not a fancy dress party; far from it. Usually there might be favourite colour or flower which might dictate the wedding & bridal flowers. Sometimes its the opposite, a definite dislike of a colour or flower, it is from from these initial that become the flowers for the day, the Wedding Flowers.
A recent Bride arranged to come to see me when she was planning her Wedding. She had booked her Wedding to be held at the gorgeous country setting Chartridge Lodge.
A fabulous venue. A stones throw away from small major towns; yet easy reach of London but at the same time in the thick of lush countryside within magnificent grounds. A perfect mini break for a guests as well as a gorgeously special wedding to enjoy!
The wedding was to be a touch of tropical in an English cottage garden setting. With the Groom with family from Madeira & the Bride, by her own admission ‘as English as they come’ we set about combining hallmarks in flora from both sides as well as colours that were striking, favoured & blended in with the setting of the interior & vast manicured grounds.
Strelitzia or Bird of Paradise was to be the main flower, evidently the flower of Madeira, & it would be featured in the wedding flowers for the Bridal Bouquet. Lovely lush, shiny deep green tropical foliage with ivory Calla lilies being the other ‘tropical flower of choice. We then chose to compliment the purple & orange of the strelitzia with cottage garden choices, Delphiniums, Crocosmia & Veronica.
The wedding flower tropical theme would continue for the bridesmaids, but in a purple ivory & lush green colour palette – bird of paradise reserved for the bride only!
For the flowers for the venue, we decided a ‘less is more’ with a couple of Strelitzia in tall clear vases would suffice for the tables & a modestly sized arrangement on the top table mirroring the bridal flowers choice would be just perfect.
